Accessing the event
For security reasons, you must be an authenticated user in order to join the symposium. This means that you must have a Zoom account and be signed in before the start of the event.
1. You can find more about creating a Zoom account for free at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360034967471-Getting-started-guide-for-new-users
2. If you try to access the symposium and you are not signed into an account you will be prompted to sign in via a pop-up window
Muted
All participants will be muted upon entry to the symposium (the mute icon should appear like the picture below). You will have that ability to un-mute yourself, however, we ask that you remain muted throughout the event unless you are asking a question following a presentation and have been promoted to do so by the session moderator.
Rename
Remember to use your full name as your Zoom name. Avoid names like "Leah's Ipad" 😉
1. Change your name by hovering next to your name in the participants list and selecting "rename"
Breakout rooms
Several breakout rooms will be open during the symposium for separate discussions. You can enter these breakout rooms as you like.
1. To access breakout rooms select the 4-square icon in fullscreen mode of the more icon and then breakout rooms when not in fullscreen mode
2. After clicking on the breakout room icon, you can hover next to the room you want to enter and there should be a "Join" option.
3. You will be prompted to verify that you want to join
4. Once in the room, it will function similar to a real room, you can interact with those in the breakout room and use the chat function (lower toolbar) to message with other members in the room or "everyone" in the entire session (including members outside the breakout room)
5. When you are ready to leave, select the "Leave room" button and you will re-enter the main area
